Farmers Festival in Limburg Lithograph, undated (1920s-1930s), edition unknown. 8 7/8 x 8 1/4 in. Signed in pencil. here we have a fine impression of this entertaining print. The margins are full and the condition is very good other than for a few soft wrinkles mostly in the margins.Van den Berg was also a fine painter and studied at the Academie voor Beeldende Kunst in the Hague. In Amsterdam later on, he taught at the National Academy of Fine Arts (Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten). The influence of Breughel is often found in his work as seen here. $550 |

Vulture Woodcut, possibly 1923, edition unknown. 17 x 14 in. Signed in pencil, lower left. Inscribed in the block, lower right, VAEVO. (de Vereeniiging tot Bevordering van het Aesthetisch Element in het Voortgezet Onderwijs, voor schoolversiering.) In other words, The Society for Promotion of the Aesthetic Element in Secondary Education. A number of talented artists from the period were involved with this project in bringing fine art to schools. This is a fine impression with full margins. The paper is a very thin Japanese. Two old hinges appear in the upper and left left corners and there's a soft crease in the upper right corner, just showing inside the mat opening. Two of his favorite subjects were birds and animals and paintings of this subject are known to exist.
In 1938 he settled in Amsterdam and taught at the Rijksacademie van Beeldende Kunsten. $1,200 |
