Harvest in San Juan, New Mexico Etching, 1883, White 11, edition unknown. 6 1/8 x 12 1/2 in. Initialed in the plate and signed in pencil, lower right. This is a superb, luminous impression printed on thin, cream, Japanese paper, apart from the more common, unsigned edition printed on heavy white wove paper. The margins are full and the condition is outstanding. According to Clinton Adams, "Peter Moran appears to have been the first artist to make etchings of New Mexican subjects." (See Printmaking in New Mexico, 1880-1990; page 3.) Indeed, this stunning, early southwestern print is a landmark image and one of his best etchings. Pencil signed impressions are rare. SOLD |
