On Maneuvers Screenprint, 1943, edition 45. 12 x 15 in. Signed, dated and titled in pencil. A fine impression in fine condition and with full margins. This is a fine example of her work and she produced other such wartime images. Helfond was a WPA artist in New York and one of the few women printmakers who worked in serigraphy during this period. The Letter Screenprint printed on brown paper, 1946, edition 40. 17 3/4 x 11 1/2 in. Signed, titled and number in pencil. This is a fine impression of this compelling print. The margins are full and the condition is excellent. Helfond was born in Brooklyn and studied at the Art Students League with Kuniyoshi and Sternberg. She taught printmaking at the Harlem Arts Community Center when she developed an expertise in the screenprint medium. Many of her subjects related to the coal miners of Pennsylvania during her stint with the WPA program. $2,000 |
