Signed with the artists' red owl stamp (Lugt 977) and also signed and inscribed in pencil, "épreuve d'artiste, Felix Buhot." This is a superb impression printed on parchment which is uncommon in Buhot prints. The margins are wide. The print was mounted decades ago to a sturdy, thin paper board, possibly by the dealer who sold it; Harlow, Keppel & Co., Fifth Avenue, New York. Their label describes this impression as "an extremely fine proof." Signed impressions are rare.

Signed with the artist's red stamp at bottom edge center (Lugt 977). Here we have a fine, luminous impression printed on sturdy laid paper. The margins are probably full with a deckle edge on three sides. The condition is excellent apart from the trace of a vertical stain along the extreme left edge of the sheet. (The paper shows a partial ARCHES watermark.) This is a stellar, uncommon work by Buhot.

The condition is fine apart from wrinkling in the margins in the center, above and below the image. This lovely image is a portrait of the artist's son, Jean Buhot. This print usually turns up unsigned as we have here. The plate was cancelled in the third and final state. Provenance: a private Norwegian collection.

Etching and drypoint, 1875, Bourcard-Goodfriend 58 (states 2 and 3); uncommon. 4 1/2 x 6 7/16 in. Both prints signed in the plate lower right. These are fine impressions with full margins. Fine condition. The first is an impression of the 2nd state. The second is Goodfriends's third state showing the drypoint cancellation marks and a large owl design in the upper right. Buhot seemed to like depicting women and donkeys as the subject appears in other prints. This pair makes for an interesting combination. (Note: "Cacoletière" refers to the seated woman who holds on to the donkey/mule with two seats meant to transport people on scenic rides.)

Signed in the lower right with the small red owl stamp (Lugt 978). This is a fine impression printed on cream laid paper without a watermark. The margins are full. The condition is good apart from a skillfully repaired split in the image in the lower left. This is certainly the most charming of Buhot's prints. (Subsequently discovered by Goodfriend, there's a new state which is this one, now the sixth state, showing a cat in the border at the left. The final state is now the seventh which is the cancelled state of the plate.)

This superb impression also bears the following inscription, "à mon camarade et ami, E." There's a further Buhot pencil inscription, "frontispiece pour L'Illustration Nouvelle de Cadart". The paper is a fine laid and the margins are full. This impression is before the plate edges were cleaned. This print is described by Goodfriend as follows: "The subject of this curious allegory is the 'death' of reproductive engraving (the spirit of the engraver's tool is carried aloft by angels, while the 'body' is taken off by an old hearse labeled 1876, drawn by a winged horse) and the triumphant arrival of original etching transported by a modern locomotive called 'L'Illustration Nouvelle' and dated 1877." Signed impressions of this print are rare. Based on the pencil dedication it appears that this is the impression illustrated in Catalogue Number Four (1986) by C. & J. Goodfriend, page 35, # 90.

This is a fine impression of this uncommon print. The paper is a thick Japanese paper. This is likely and intermediate second state, with the shading complete but before annotations were added in three of the four corners. This exquisite work is from Buhot's Japonism series based on several objects in the collection of Philippe Burty.

It was published in L'Art in a large edition so the best and most interesting impressions can be often overlooked.

This is a fine, rich, luminous impression printed in two slightly different tones of black ink. The margins are full and the condition is very good. (There's a professionally repaired break along the right edge from plate mark pressure in the printing process.) The central image (state v/VI) is printed from one plate and the outer image (state iii/III) is printed from a second plate. There's a pencil inscription on the verso which reads," Eau Forte de Felix Buhot purchased from the artist's son, Jean Buhot, in 1919... R. Lawson." In addition, this beautiful print comes from a Norwegian private collection.

This is a stellar, rich impression printed in two tones of ink on a white wove paper. The margins are wide. The condition is very good apart from fold marks showing along the top and bottom margin; the bottom folds are fairly close to the platemark but not very noticeable. The central image (state v/VI) is printed from one plate and the border (iii/III) from another. This is one of the iconic 19th century French landscape etchings.

Signed with the red stamp on the edge of the image lower left (Lugt 977). This is a superb, luminous impression of this rare state. There are inky plate edges in areas which suggest the proof-like nature of this impression. The margins are full and the condition is excellent. This is described by Goodfriend as the "final published state of the print." The etched writing along the bottom edge reads "Une Matinée d'Hiver au Quai de l'Hôtel Dieu," and on the right side, "2em Etat de Publication..." This state was unknown to Bourcard. This is certainly one of Buhot's finest prints shown here in an exemplary impression.

Signed with the large red owl stamp in the lower right (Lugt 977). Signed on the verso at the top with another red stamp. Also, this print is signed in pencil and has the following inscription by the artist, "Epreuve d'essai du 2e Etat, après... marges... et avant la planche coupée (that word crossed out and instead) rognée." This is a superb impression of this rare, highly desirable state with the sketches along the bottom of the plate. The paper is a medium weight, cream-colored Japanese and the margins are wide measuring about 1 1/2 to 1 3/4" all around. The condition is excellent. This is the finest example of the Cabstand we have offered in many years. Pencil signed impressions are rare.

This a fine, luminous impression printed with a nicely modulated plate tone throughout. The margins are wide (2 1/2") and probably full and the paper bears a VAN GELDER watermark. The condition is excellent other than for a small repaired tear in the lower right margin, well away from the image. This iconic 19th century French etching is shown here in a desirable state and impression, without the extreme dark murkiness of some of the impressions printed. Buhot's large red owl stamp (Lugt 977) shows along the platemark on the left side.

This is a superb impression rich in tone and contrasts. The paper is a cream Japanese and the margins are probably full. Excellent condition. There's an annotation by Buhot along the bottom of the sheet: Tirage //300 épr.//25 ép. D'artiste//3 ép.sur Japon. Here Buhot depicts the crown offered to pope Léon XIII for his jubilee. It was made by the goldsmith François-Désiré Froment-Meurice who knew Buhot. The artist depicts his son in the foreground.

This is a fine, richly inked impression of this uncommon print. The margins appear to be full with a deckle edge on three sides. The condition is fine. According to Jim Goodfriend, "The precise time and date (March 20, 6 in the evening) are etched into the plate, memorializing the final day on which artists could submit paintings for exhibition in the 1877 salon." (See his Catalogue Number Six, page 10 (1998). This, the published state, bears the printed title "Le 20 Mars au Palais des Champs Èlysées." It was published by Cadart.

This is a very fine, atmospheric impression with full margins. The paper is a cream-colored Japanese and apart from the remains of discreet older hinges, the condition is fine. This exemplary work has all the elements of a great Buhot; composition, detail, atmosphere and his unique pictorial imagery.

This exemplary work has all the elements of a great Buhot print; a striking composition, detail, atmosphere and his unique pictorial imagery.

(Lugt 977) This superb, luminous impression is also inscribed by the artist, "épreuve d'essai du 4e état après la planche coupée et avant le retouche du ciel." ('Proof of the fourth state after the plate was cut but before the reworking of the sky.') The condition is fine and the margins are wide and probably untrimmed. This large and impressive work is here seen in an outstanding impression.
