HERMAN VOLZ
American, (1904-1990)

Lithograph, 1942, edition 20. 17 1/8 x 12 1/4 in. Signed on the stone, lower right. Signed, titled and numbered in pencil. This is a superb impression with full margins. The condition is excellent. Volz was born and raised in Zurich, Switzerland, and immigrated to the U.S. in 1933. He settled in the San Francisco Bay area where he was he was active in the Northern California Art Project. He became something of a solitary figure and his printed social commentary often involved the power of geometric abstraction. His editions are small. This is his finest print. Impressions of Industrial Accident are in the collections of the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and the Block Museum at Northwestern.       $2,500
