Etching, 1929, Garton 9 (ii/II), edition 50. 13 1/8 x 10 7/8 in. Signed, dated and numbered in pencil. This is a superb impression from the rare first edition of 1929. The paper is a fine laid with a slight greenish tint and the condition is excellent. (The lower margin has been slightly trimmed.) The print was originally published in 1929 by MacDonald and Nicholson. There was a second edition in 1974 published by the Penn Print Room and a 1982 edition of 12 published by Garton & Cooke. This exceptional etching epitomizes the early 20th century British pastoral tradition as inspired by the work of Samuel Palmer and F. L. Griggs. Early impressions such as this one are uncommon.      SOLD
