Swimming Fish - JACOBUS G. VELDHEER
Medium: woodcut printed in colors
JACOBUS G. VELDHEER
Dutch, (1866-1954)
Woodcut printed in colors, probably 1915, very small edition. 19 5/8 x 15 1/2 in. Unsigned. This is a fine impression of this extremely rare print. The paper is a fibrous Japanese mounted to an early support paperboard. The margins measure about 3/4 inches all around. Veldheer was profoundly influence by Japanese prints and he created a small group of fish woodcuts around 1915. The influence of Hiroshige (1797-1858) is clearly evident. Veldheer's color woodcuts are now very rare and were certainly printed in small editions.
