Etching and aquatint, 1881, Singer 55 (ii/II), edition unknown. 16 3/8 x 10 1/2 in. Signed in the plate. This is a fine impression printed on chine applique. The margins are full. The condition is very good apart from two stains in the outer right margin. This is plate 5 of 12 from Klinger's Opus IV; Intermezzi. The set was conceived of in 1879 and the plates were published in 1881. The artist was interested in mythology and centaurs appear in other etchings in this series. Klinger was only twenty-one when he started working on Intermezzi.      SOLD
