Etching and aquatint, 1881, Singer 53 (iii/III), edition unknown. 9 x 16 in. Signed in the plate below the image, lower left. This is a fine impression on chine applique with full margins. The condition is also fine. This is Plate 2 of 12 from Opus IV; Intermezzi. This compelling image is from one of Klinger's best know series of prints and the set was dedicated to the engraver and art dealer, Hermann Sagert. Both Dali and De Chirico were influenced by Klinger's innovative work. In particular, this romantic image relates to an 1809 painting by Caspar David Friedrich entitled "Monk by the Sea" which is in Berlin.      SOLD
