The margins are full. The condition is fine. This impression bears the seal # 2 "Mokuchu" as listed in the catalogue on page 196. Color variations exist of this print. Ex-collection: the artist's estate via Ichiro Urushibara, the artist's son. The artist rarely dated his prints.

Provenance: the artist's estate via Ichiro Urushibara, the artist's son. (Note: the catalogue raisonné of Urusibara's woodcuts was recently published in 2017. The margins are full and the condition is fine. Van der Stok is well known for his stylized art deco era designs. He was born in Indonesia and eventually settled in the Hague. Circe was a sorceress in Greek mythology.

Van Straten studied in Antwerp and was influenced by Masereel and Dufy. He's one of the preeminent Belgian expressionist printmakers from the 1930s.

This is a fine impression on cream wove paper in excellent condition. The margins are full. This impression was issued in La Gravure Originale Belge, Volume 3, 1929, in an edition of 50 impressions. There was also a separate edition of ten impressions. Van Straten, like Masereel, was a social commentator and many of his prints reflect upon the political and social environment between the wars.

The impressions are all fine and the condition is excellent. This early, expressionist effort by van Straten shows the influence of German printmaking as well as the work of Frans Masereel. This fine set was published by Lumiere, Antwerp. Provenance: private collection, Antwerp.

Inspired by the poem "The Sleeper" by Edgar Allen Poe (1831), La Dormeuse was one of van Straten's early block books and this particular effort won him the Lumière graphic art prize. Provenance: private collection, Antwerp.

This is the full, untrimmed sheet with a deckle edge all around. The condition is fine other than minor paper imperfections, one in the blank area at left, and an old fold in the lower margin. This important portrait is illustrated on page 16 of Theo van Hoytema 1863-1917, the 1999 exhibition catalogue for the Drents Museum/Gemeentemuseum show about the artist. An impression of this work is located in the Rijksmuseum collection.

The condition is very good other than for minor marginal discoloration and traces of the blue ink in the margins. This work exists in color variations.

The condition is fine apart from a minor streak located in the breast of the bird at the right. Cut in the block the lower right is VAEVO; (de Vereeniiging tot Bevordering van het Aesthetisch Element in het Voortgezet Onderwijs, voor schoolversiering.) In other words, The Society for Promotion of the Aesthetic Element in Secondary Education. A number of talented artists from the period were involved with this project in bringing fine art to schools. Veringa was a student of Samuel Jessurun de Mesquita.

The margins are wide and the condition is fine. (There's a small repair to the upper right margin corner.) Verstijnen started out as a glass and ceramic designer in Gouda and then Maastricht. He later established himself in the Hague (1918) at the Pulchri Studio and with "Haagse Kunstkring" and specialized in printmaking and paintings of floral and animal subjects. An important retrospective exhibition was held in 2006-07 at the Drents Museum and also at the Museum Mestag, both in Holland. His large woodcuts are exceptional and also quite rare. Flamingos was printed from four blocks and is so inscribed.

This is a fine, delicate impression printed on very thin Japanese paper. The margins are wide and the condition is very good. (There's a tiny hole in the right margin and some subtle wrinkling in the image most likely a result of the printing process. Verstijnen had a flair for the exotic and this is a favorite subject of his.

The margins are full and the condition is excellent. The edition was printed by Paul Birault, Paris, and the print was published by Henri Kahnweiler also in Paris. Vlaminck excelled as a woodcut artist and this work can be considered one of his best. Martigues is a commune northwest of Marseilles.

The margins are full and the condition is very good other than for two soft creases in the lower right corner; one touching the image. This engaging print is an illustration for Madman's Drum, one of Ward's novels without words, this one published in 1930.

Linocut printed with unique color inking, 1920-21, Rubenstein 33, edition unknown. 7 3/4 x 3 3/8 in. Signed in pencil, lower right. This is a superb, uniquely colored impression printed on thin Japanese paper. The margins appear to be full and there's a number "32" in pencil in the lower left corner. The condition is fine. There are three impressions of this image in the National Gallery; two in brown ink and another is a color variation from the Rosenwald Collection. Weber studied with Arthur W. Dow at the Pratt Institute early on and later in Paris with Matisse. He was impressed with the work of Cezanne. Weber was friendly with William Zorach from their Greenwich Village days and could have been influenced by his printmaking technique. This is an exceptional and rare example of Weber's color woodcut style.
