Etching, 1861, Melot R4 (iii/III), edition unknown. 5 1/2 x 8 1/4 in. Signed and dated in the plate, lower right. This is a fine impression printed on a cream-colored chine appliqué. The margins are full and the condition is very good apart from being slightly light struck within an earlier mat opening. Rousseau produced only four etchings and this is the most common as it appears here; the third state as published in the Gazette des Beaux Arts in 1861. Early state impressions are very rare and the letters of the third state are occasionally found masked or roughed out to present the appearance of a first state. Rousseau exhibited the painting of the same subject in the Salon of 1861. This is a fine example of Barbizon printmaking at an affordable price.

Cliché-verre , 1855, Melot R5, only state. edition 150. 9 1/4 x 11 1/2 in. Signed in the plate, lower left. This is a fine impression with full margins. The condition is excellent. This is one of forty cliché-verre plates acquired from Bouasse-Lebel including works by Corot, Daubigny, Delacroix, Millet and Rousseau. They were acquired by by the firm of Sagot-Le Garrec and published in 1921. Each impression, as with this one, bears the stamp of Sagot-Le Garrec (Lugt 1766a) and is numbered. (Our impression is signed in pencil with, "Essai" ('trial proof'). Early, lifetime impressions of these works are nearly impossible to fine. This a especially fine example of one of only six graphic works by Rousseau, two of which were the cliché-verre glass plate process.

Signed and numbered in pencil in the lower left corner of the sheet. This is a very fine impression with full margins. The condition is fine apart from minor rippling along the top edge of the sheet. This stellar Nabis print was published in Album 1 of L'Estampe Originale in 1893 and was printed by Ancourt. The blindstamp of the publication (Lugt 819) appears in the lower right corner of the sheet. "During his Nabis years, François-Xavier Roussel, known as Ker, was influenced by Japanese prints. This color lithograph--particularly the slim, columnar trees, whose branches are cropped from view--may have been inspired by Utagawa Hiroshige's vertical format landscape series One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, which also includes snow scenes. For the Nabis, pets were intimate members of the household, and thus worthy of inclusion in their domestic and garden views." The margins are full and the condition is fine overall. Printed by Clot and published by Vollard, this image is from Roussel's celebrated "Paysages" series. These works comprise his best work in color lithography. His printmaking is post impressionist in style he worked with Vuillard and other Nabis artists at the Académie Julian in Paris.

We sold this very impression back in the 1980s and are pleased to have it again.

Furthermore, this superb impression is inscribed "essai" (trial proof.) The condition is fine. The margins are wide if not full. Crauzat lists 19 proofs plus three trials, as we have here, in the third state. This is a rare print as such and so very typical of Steinlen's best imagery.

This is a superb, luminous impression with dynamic colors. The margins are full. The condition is very good other than for occasional soiling in the margins. This large print was published by Sagot, Paris, and bears their blindstamp in the lower right. Taquoy's work is discussed in, From Pissarro to Picasso, Color Etching in France (1992) by Cate & Grivel.

The margins are full with a deckle edge showing on all sides. This is a fine work by this underrated German expressionist printmaker and draughtsman. He produced three prominent woodcut portfolios; the Cathedral Series, the Passion, and the America Series. A large collection of his work in at Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles. This print is from Der Dom (the Cathedral Series).

Thiemann produced a remarkable group of floral woodcuts along with his better-known arts and crafts style scenic landscapes and European town scenes. He produced over four hundred woodcuts most in very small editions.

This is a superb, luminous impression printed on VAN GELDER watermarked paper. The margins are full and the condition is excellent. This stellar work is from the collection of Michael Wentworth, the author of the catalogue raisonné of the artist's prints. (His name is stamped in black ink in the lower margin, Lugt 4860.) In the distance beyond the portico is the Church of St. Martin's-in-the-Fields in Trafalgar Square.

The margins are full showing a deckle edge on all sides. The condition is excellent. This print relates to a photograph of Mrs. Newton and a man in the background on the chair. There's also an oil painting which has not been located.

Signed on the stone with the printed monogram. This is a fine impression with probably the full margins. The colors are fresh. The condition is very good apart from four small subtle wrinkles at the corners from earlier hinges, verso. There's a slight crease in the lower right corner just barely affecting the printed area. Renée Vert was also a fashion designer and married to the painter, Joseph Albert. They were good friends of Lautrec. Impressions without the text are found in the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art.
