Woodcut printed in colors, 2015, edition 26. 14 5/8 x 23 in. Signed, dated, titled and numbered in pencil. This is a superb impression in fine condition. The margins are full. As with all of Postma's work, this exemplary woodcut is printed from a single block. This is not a multiple block woodcut in the Japanese tradition, but rather, a reduction woodcut printed from a single piece of wood. The artist makes an initial design on the block and then prints the entire edition. She returns to the block and makes more design changes and then re-inks the block and prints on top of the same sheets of paper. This process continues and the end result is a build up of layers of ink resulting in a subtle yet rich overlay of colors. There is very little margin for error in this time consuming yet rewarding process. Grietje Postma is one of the finest woodcut artists working in Holland today.      $950
