Erie R. R. Locos Watering - REGINALD MARSH - etching with touches of drypoint

REGINALD MARSH
American, (1898-1954)

Etching with touches of drypoint, 1934, Sasowsky 155 (viii/VIII), edition possibly only 18. 9 3/4 x11 7/8 in. Signed and numbered in pencil. This is a superb impression with full margins. The condition is fine apart from a tiny repaired tear in the right margin, well outside the image. This is one of Marsh's finest railroad prints and was was reprinted in 1956 (Jones edition) and later in 1969 in the Whitney edition of 100 impressions. A painting exists of the subject as well as a related drawing (Fogg Art Musem). Another Marsh print is very similar (S 87), expressing the artist's interest in this particular choice of subject and composition. Unlike the fairly large editions of Thomas Hart Benton and Grant Wood prints, the much smaller lifetime editions of the majority of Marsh prints make these impressions considerably harder to come by.      SOLD
