Etching, 1906, Nieuwenkamp E 86 (iv/IV), edition 50. 15 1/2 x 13 in. Initialed in the plate and signed in pencil, lower right. This is a fine impression on Japanese paper. The margins are wide and the condition is very good. This work bears the blindstamp of P. J. Zurcker from the Hague who was probably the publisher of this work. The tower is known as the Our Lady Tower in the town of Amersfoort, Holland.

Etching, 1903, Hubert E77 (ii/II), Nieuwenkamp E77; edition 12 plus one proof in the first state. 5 3/8 x 7 3/4 in. Signed in the plate, lower left. Signed and titled in pencil and inscribed "épreuve d'artiste." This is a fine impression printed on cream wove paper. The margins are probably full. There's some faint, old adhesive at the outer margin edges, verso, from an early mount. This small, charming print is one of a small group of fishing boat studies Nieuwenkamp produced. (He maintained a floating artist's studio; he kept his printing press on his houseboat and would travel the Dutch waterways in search of subjects to draw and etch. The boat was called De Zwerver (The Wanderer).

This is a fine impression in very good condition. The margins are wide and probably full. (There are three small roughed up spots along top margin from removal of previous hinges.)

Etching, 1911, Branches/Heijbroek E114 (i/V), Hubert E114 (i/III) 7 7/8 x 11 5/8 in. Signed in pencil lower right and inscribed "proefdruk." Inscribed in the image lower left, "1ste staat," and then there's another inscription which is probably "6 Febr 1911). (The catalogue states four proofs in the first state.) This lovely, rare print changes in the fourth state with the removal of the figures and a tree added on the left. The margins are full and the condition is fine. There's an unidentified collector's mark on the verso.

Etching, 1898, Nieuwenkamp E41, edition only 6. 12 1/2 x 9 3/8 in. Signed and titled in pencil. This is an especially fine, well-inked impression printed on cream-colored laid paper. The margins are wide and probably untrimmed. The condition is quite good. This charming view shows the harbor of Enkhuizen and the Dromedais Tower on the left. (This building dates from the 16th century and was a city gate as well as a watchtower for the busy harbor.) The sky is gracefully articulated and the result is a delicate, atmospheric impression of great beauty. Very few impressions were printed from this plate according to the catalog listing.

Etching, 1907-1914, Nieuwenkamp E88, Braches E 88 (iii/IV); edition 10 in this state. 14 1/8 x 15 1/4 in. Signed in the plate, lower left. Signed and titled in pencil. (This impression has the etched remarque of leaves and a branch in the lower right corner.) This is a fine impression on sturdy laid paper. The margins are wide and the condition is very good. (There's a soft crease in the lower left corner in the blank area of the plate.) This exemplary work is a fine example of Dutch art nouveau ("nieuwe kunst") printmaking where art and decoration come together in a refined and elegant way. Braches lists a total of 33 impressions; the third state being printed in 1908. The artist finally printed the last ten impressions in 1916 with apparently no changes made to the plate. Braches does not indicate when the remarque was added. In any event, this is a rare and remarkable etching of the Dutch art nouveau era.

Etching, 1917, Nieuwenkamp E 182, Branches/Heijbroek E182 (iii/III); edition 25. 17 3/4 x 21 3/4 in. Signed in pencil and inscribed, "épreuve d'artiste," and, "E182, 3de staat." This is a fine, luminous impression printed with plate tone on sturdy Japanese paper. The margins are full and the condition is fine. The scene here is located in central Java, Indonesia. Nieuwenkamp, based in Edam, developed a passion for traveling to far away places as well as other European countries. He went to Sumatra, Java and Bali (The Dutch East Indies), North Africa, Ceylon and India. He ended up buying a home near Florence in 1925. During his many years in Holland he traveled in an elaborate houseboat called De Zwerver where he kept his printing press and worked on site as he docked along various rivers and canals. His travels began in 1894 and ended in 1940 with the onset of WWII. He is often remembered as the first European artist to visit Bali, and did so more than once.

Signed and titled in pencil and also inscribed "épreuve d'artiste." This is a superb impression with substantial margins. The condition is fine apart from a tiny paper flaw to the left of the image. In the far distant landscape one can see the Cathedral of St. Bavo in Haarlem.

Etching, 1898, Nieuwenkam E45 (ii/II), edition ten impressions in the second state. 17 1/2 x 23 1/2 in. Signed in the plate, lower left. Signed and titled in pencil and also inscribed "epreuve d'artiste." (There's an etched remarque in the lower right consisting of flowers, a tree and a building facade.) The margins are wide and the condition is very good overall. This outstanding, large work depicts a lovely panoramic view of Rhenen with the Cunera Church on the right. Nieuwenkamp cleverly depicts his studio/houseboat (De Zwerver) docked along the shore in the left side of the composition. The artist had an etching press on board and he would travel different Dutch waterways in search of inspirational scenes.

This is a superb, luminous impression printed on a light cream Japanese style paper. The margins are full. The condition is fine. The blindstamp of the publisher, P. J. Zurcher, is in the lower left corner of the margin.

Etching, 1912, Nieuwenkamp E134 (iii/IV), edition at least 40. 4 5/8 x 6 1/8 in. Signed and titled in pencil and also inscribed "epreuve d'artiste." This is a fine impression printed with plate tone. The margins are wide if not full. The condition is excellent. The Nieuwenkamp catalog lists four states. There are various trial proofs along with 12 impressions of this, the third state, and 25 impressions listed for the fouth and final state.

Etching, 1898-1910, Nieuwenkamp E25, Hubert E25 (ii/III), Braches E25 (ii/III); edition 25. 7 3/16 x 9 5/8 in. (image size) Signed and titled in pencil. Also, inscribed "épreuve d'artiste." This is a fine, rich impression of this charming, early print. The margins are substantial and the condition is fine. (There's subtle discoloration in the left edge of the sheet well away from the image.) This courtyard view was based on a pen and ink drawing and was done in Haarlem. There were just a couple of proofs of the first state, 25 in this, the second, and the plate was cut down in the third state with an edition of 25 numbered impressions printed in 1910 by Scheltema & Holkema.
