Stars and Dancers (Astres et Danseurs) Etching with hand coloring, 1938, Dupin 19, edition 30 plus four four numbered impressions on vellum. print size: 2 3/4 x 3 3/4 in. (sheet size: 11 1/2 x 16 3/8 in.) Signed in red ink and numbered "2/4". This is a fine impression in fine condition. There are tack holes around the edges of the sheet done by the printer. Also, vellum is prone to wrinkling and this is the case here. This is an extremely rare and unique hand-colored impression from the edition of 4. The print was co-published by Pierre Loeb and Pierre Matisse, Paris and New York. The plate was cancelled and then there was a large 1956 unsigned edition printed by Crommelynck and published by Maeght for Le Miroir. Provenance: private collection: Washington, DC. Exhibited at: MirĂ³ in New York, 1947: MirĂ³, Hayter and Atelier 17. Academy Art Museum, 2021. Illustrated on page 22 of the show catalogue. This outstanding surrealist etching is sold with the frame.
