The margins are wide and probably full. The condition is fine. This wonderful, rare work is rich in content with potent WPA era imagery of big business (a banker), the working man, leisure, women's rights, and in the lower left corner; a bomb and a snake, most likely a symbol of underlying anarchist thinking. Forest Girl Wood engraving, 1933-36, Lehman page 63, edition perhaps 200. 8 1/2 x 6 in. Signed in the block, lower center, initialed in the block, lower right, and dated in the block lower left. This is a superb impression on white wove paper with full margins. Excellent condition. This impression is signed in pencil but is not from the first numbered edition of sixty. In 1933, Landacre added his copyright symbol and this was for the edition of 150-200 for the American Artists Group print editions. These impressions are normally not signed in pencil. However, the artist would occasionally sign a few of these at a slightly extra cost. That is what we have here. SOLD |
