Jan van Eyckplein, Bruges (Quai du Mirror) - YOSHIJIRO URUSHIBARA
Medium: woodcut printed in colors
YOSHIJIRO URUSHIBARA
Japanese, (1880-1953)
Woodcut printed in colors, 1919, Chapman/Horner UB 13, edition 50 plus proofs. 14 7/8 x 19 5/8 in. Signed with the artist's seal in the lower left corner. Signed in pencil by Frank Brangwyn (1867-1956) and Urushibara. This is a fine impression with full margins. The condition is excellent apart from minor handling creases in the margins here and there. This rare print is from the Bruges Portfolio which was the high point of the collaborative efforts between these two artists. Primarily, Brangwyn produced watercolors and/or drawings for a print and Urushibara cut and printed the blocks. The influence of Urushibara on many of his British contempories cannot be underestimated.
