Woodland Idyll (Bosidyelle) - THEO VAN HOYTEMA
Medium: lithograph printed on chine applique
THEO VAN HOYTEMA
Dutch, (1863-1917)
Lithograph printed on chine applique, 1898, Rijksmuseum 80 (ii/II), edition unknown. 12 1/8 x 8 1/4 in. Signed on the stone. Signed and numbered in pencil. This is a superb impression printed in gray-green ink and the margins are probably full and untrimmed. This subtle, beautifully drawn lithograph is a fine example of Dutch Art Nouveau printmaking. The work is illustrated and discussed on pages 118-119 of Holland on Paper in the Age of Art Nouveau (2014) by Cliff Ackley. (We've seen a little ink color variation with this print over the years. In addition, there may have been a signed and numbered edition of possibly 100 and a second unsigned edition.)
