The Chimera of Amiens - DAVID YOUNG CAMERON - etching with drypoint

DAVID YOUNG CAMERON
Scottish, (1865-1945)

Etching with drypoint, 1910, Rinder 415 (v/VII), edition unknown. 9 5/8 x 7 1/4 in. Signed in the plate in the upper left corner. Signed in pencil below, lower right. This is a superb impression printed on off-white laid paper. The margins are probably full but the left side is narrow measuring 3/8". This memorable work was certainly inspired by Meryon's "Le Stryge" from 1853. Cameron visited France in 1910 following a trip to Egypt. A chimera is a fire breathing monster of Greek mythology and a combination of various parts of different animals.      SOLD
