Etching and aquatint, 1927, proofs only. 10 3/8 x 8 in. Unsigned but from the estate of the artist. Titled and inscribed trial proof (proefdruk) and not for sale (niet te koop). Inscribed "III" below which suggest one of the trial proofs. The margins are full and the condition is fine. Provenance: the estate of the artist and this impression was exhibited in a retrospective exhibition, De Stijl van Lou Loeber, (Cataloge Kunst aan de Dijk, Kortenhoef, 2017, page 41. This print is identical in composition to a painting by Loeber (1928) and a drawing by Dirk Koning (1927). Loeber attended the State Academy of Fine Arts (Rijksakademie) in Amsterdam from 1915-1918 but left early as she considered it too conservative. Her work was inspired by Piet Mondrian, Theo van Doesburg and Bart van der Leck. Essentially, she found her spiritual home with the Dutch De Stijl group. She married the artist Dirk Koning in 1931.

Etching, 1924, edition 10. 7 3/4 x 11 3/4 in. Signed, dated and numbered in pencil. This is a fine impression of this rare print. The margins are substantial and possibly trimmed. The condition is fine. In keeping with her interest in modernist design and geometric patterns, Loeber here depicts a beach town view and does so with great inventiveness and precision. Loeber attended the State Academy of Fine Arts (Rijksakademie) in Amsterdam from 1915-1918 but left early as she considered it too conservative. Her work was inspired by Piet Mondrian, Theo van Doesburg and Bart van der Leck. Essentially, she found her spiritual home with the Dutch De Stijl group. She married the artist Dirk Koning in 1931.

Linocut, 1930, edition 75. 8 x 7 in. Signed in pencil, lower right and initialed in the block. This is a fine impression printed on thin Japanese paper. The sheet has been archivally mounted to a heavier support sheet. The margins are wide. Louise Marie "Lou" Loeber was an outstanding Dutch modernist graphic artist and painter. Her work shows the influence of Mondriaan and the other De Stijl artists. She was greatly influenced by Kandinsky as well. Her prints are not so common.

Linocut, 1930, edition 100. 5 7/8 x 4 3/4 in. Signed, dated and numbered in pencil. Titled below probably by another hand. Here we have a fine, dark impression printed on a fibrous Japanese paper. The margins are full and the condition is fine. (There's a soft crease across the top margin well away from the image.) Loeber attended the State Academy of Fine Arts (Rijksakademie) in Amsterdam from 1915-1918 but left early as she considered it too conservative. Her work was inspired by Piet Mondrian, Theo van Doesburg and Bart van der Leck. Essentially, she found her spiritual home with the Dutch De Stijl group. She married the artist Dirk Koning in 1931. She produced another, slightly larger version of this same subject.

Linoleum cut, circa 1926, edition 75. 11 7/8 x 9 3/4 in. Initialed in the block, lower right. Signed and numbered in pencil. This is a fine impression printed on thin Japanese paper. The margins are full. The condition is very good apart from minor soft wrinkles here and there in the margins. This stellar Dutch modernist image exemplifies De Stijl aesthetics and it's one of Loeber's best prints. This print is illustrated on page 36 of "Gedroomd Papier, Tekeningen en Prenten 1850-1935" by Ton Geerts (2010). Louise Marie 'Lou' Loeber studied at the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam from 1915-1918. Mondrian was a big influence along the way as was Bart van der Leck (who became a neighbor of hers in Blaricum.) In 1931, she married the artist Dirk Koning (1888-1978) whose work was somewhat similiar. Loeber's early prints are rare.
